- Disconnect electrical power and remove all shields, panels, and covers to access the starter motor. Remove the old starter assembly and manually bar over the engine to check the condition of the ring gear and flywheel. Clean and tighten all electrical connections and install the replacement starter assembly. Shim the starter if applicable to set the correct gear depth and torque the fasteners to specification. Clean and tighten the electrical connections at the starter assembly, and reinstall onto the replacement unit. Reinstall any previously removed components, and reconnect the vehicles electrical system. Perform a full starting and charging system analysis to confirm the proper operation of the new component.
